The leadership and entire membership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), North Central Zone, warmly congratulate Comr. Jimoh Ibrahim on his emergence as the newly elected National President of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) at the just-concluded National Convention held in Abuja.

His emergence represents a significant moment in the continuing evolution of NAPS and comes at a time when the Nigerian polytechnic community requires purposeful representation, visionary leadership, strategic advocacy, institutional engagement and a renewed commitment to the welfare and advancement of students across the country.

For the North Central Zone, this moment is not merely an electoral outcome. It is a new opportunity to strengthen the Association, deepen unity among its structures, and advance a more responsive national student movement capable of engaging meaningfully with government, educational institutions, regulatory bodies, industry stakeholders and the wider Nigerian society.

FROM SERVICE TO NATIONAL LEADERSHIP

A Journey Defined by Experience and Commitment

Comr. Jimoh Ibrahim’s emergence as National President comes against the backdrop of his previous involvement in the national leadership architecture of NAPS.

Before his emergence as National President, Comr. Jimoh Ibrahim served in significant national capacities, including as Clerk of the NAPS Senate and subsequently as National Public Relations Officer, positions through which he participated in national advocacy, stakeholder engagement and public communication on issues affecting students and the wider educational environment.

His record of engagement has included public positions on matters concerning polytechnic education, student welfare, financial inclusion and national policy. For instance, in February 2025, NAPS publicly advocated for the swift passage of bills seeking the establishment of Federal Polytechnic, Adikpo, Benue State, and the National College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition, Illela, Sokoto State, with the statement jointly issued by then National President Oyewumi Festus and National PRO Jimoh Ibrahim.

He was also involved in NAPS’ public advocacy on financial policies affecting students, including the Association’s 2025 position calling for a review of newly introduced ATM transaction charges.

These engagements provide important context to his emergence: the new National President is not entering national leadership as a newcomer to the Association’s affairs, but as a leader who has previously participated in its institutional and advocacy processes.

THE ROAD TO THE CONVENTION

Consultation, Engagement and the Search for Direction

The journey to the 2026 National Convention was marked by extensive consultations across the NAPS national structure.

For the North Central Zone, the period preceding the convention was particularly significant. The Zone maintained an open and consultative approach, engaging with stakeholders and aspirants as part of efforts to understand their visions for the future of NAPS.

The North Central Zone’s official platform records a series of pre-convention engagements, including a strategic consultation between Comr. Jimoh Ibrahim and the North Central Zonal Leadership on 9 May 2026, alongside subsequent engagements involving other presidential hopefuls.

These consultations reflected the Zone’s commitment to informed participation in the national process.

Rather than viewing the convention merely as an electoral contest, the North Central leadership approached it as an opportunity to examine ideas, listen to competing visions and contribute to a national conversation about the future direction of the Association.

That spirit of consultation remains essential as NAPS transitions into a new administration.

ABUJA: WHERE THE NATIONAL COMMUNITY CONVERGED

A Convention of Leadership, Representation and Renewal

The national convention in Abuja brought together stakeholders from across the NAPS structure in what became an important gathering for the Nigerian polytechnic student community.

Delegates arrived from different institutions, states and geopolitical zones, united by a common interest in the future of the Association.

The convention provided a platform for dialogue, engagement, leadership transition and the exercise of the democratic responsibilities entrusted to delegates.

For the North Central Zone, participation in the convention was an expression of its commitment to the national structure of NAPS and to the principle that the collective interests of students must remain greater than individual interests.

The conclusion of the electoral process and the emergence of Comr. Jimoh Ibrahim therefore mark the beginning of a new phase—one in which the expectations of students, institutions and stakeholders must now be translated into action.
